Six Individuals Detained Following 12 Million Euro Heist on Gold Refining Lab in France
Six armed perpetrators carrying military-grade weapons detonated charges to force entry into a gold refining laboratory located in Lyon, France, resulting in minor injuries to five employees during what is being called the most recent prominent broad daylight robbery to affect France.
The audacious robbery occurred on Thursday late morning, with law enforcement authorities swiftly apprehending the alleged criminals and securing the stolen items estimated to be worth 12 million euros (10.5 million pounds), according to officials.
Five employees of the precious metals facility sustained minor injuries from the blast, and three individuals required hospital checks for evaluation, the regional prefecture announced. A total of twenty-eight staff were at the location when the robbers attacked.
The suspects, believed to be seasoned offenders, were arrested a brief time later in the neighboring community of the town of Vénissieux, according to investigative sources.
A female accomplice who took part in the heist was also apprehended, a police source indicated.
“Six individuals who utilized explosives in an assault targeting a metals processing plant in Lyon were apprehended red-handed,” the nation's interior minister announced via X, lauding police for their “quick action, authority and management”.
High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were recovered as well.
The heist took place as French police on that Thursday apprehended five additional individuals, featuring a main perpetrator, in relation to the bold raid on the Louvre museum.
Many investigative personnel have been searching for four perpetrators who employed a truck equipped with a moving lift and cutting equipment to break into an upper-level exhibition space at the prestigious institution on October 19th, escaping with jewelry valued at approximately 88 million euros.
